NNPP Faction Reiterates Expulsion of Kwankwaso and Others, Calls on INEC for Record Update
A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revise its records concerning the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) membership. The faction, led by Dr. Temitope Aluko, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), emphasized that key NNPP figures like Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and the entire previous National Working Committee (NWC) under Alhaji Abbah Kawu had been expelled.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Aluko urged the media to adhere to the NNPP constitution, recognizing only officers duly elected according to the party’s internal processes. He stressed that INEC, while constitutionally empowered to register, control, and regulate political parties, should refrain from meddling in their internal affairs.
Aluko clarified that the NNPP’s constitution takes precedence and is binding on all members, and the party has duly informed INEC of the expulsions. He emphasized that INEC’s role does not extend to intervening in the internal management of political parties, as it would infringe on the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freely associate.

The BOT chairman highlighted the clear powers of the NNPP board in resolving internal matters and called out chieftains like Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and the defunct NWC led by Kawu for violating the new NNPP’s constitutional provisions. He cited the expulsion of former National Chairman Prof. Rufai Alkali, Prof. Angwe Samuel, and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi as indications of issues within the party’s administration.
Aluko expressed concern over corruption, high-handedness, lack of transparency, and accountability within the defunct NNPP NWC. Despite the Board of Trustees invoking its powers to expel these individuals, he noted that INEC continued to engage with the expelled members, even as the matter is pending before a Federal High Court, with INEC duly served and notified.
